Management’s basic need is the effective utilization of human resources for the achievement of organizational objectives via, profitable operations and growth through the satisfaction of certain needs of the customers and society. Every aspect of a firm’s activities is determined by the competence, motivation and general effectiveness of its human organization.

Definition: Human Resource:

The term human resource may be defined as the total knowledge skills, creative abilities, talents and aptitudes of an organization’s workforce, as well as the values, attitudes, approaches and beliefs of the individuals involved in the affairs of the organisation. It is the sum total or aggregate of inherent abilities, acquired knowledge and skills represented by the talents and aptitudes of the persons employed in an organisation.

Definition of personnel/human resource management

Personnel management has come to be recognized as an inherent part of management which is concerned with the human resources of an organisation. Its objective is the maintenance of better human relations in the organisation by the development, application and evaluation of policies, procedures and programmes relating to human resource to optimize their contribution towards the realization of organisation objectives.

Human Resource Management means management of the dynamic resource of all the people at all levels in the organsitional hierarchy round the clock throughout the year.

It represents significant measure of utilising human resources to achieve organizational goals for applying behavioral sciences. The main aim of HRM is to achieve the organizational ad individual goal by the ensuring the most effective use of employees in the organization. It also aims at providing for and coordinating te human resources.
